Audubon Zoo Scare Forces Local Residents to Evacuate Uptown New Orleans
(NEW ORLEANS) – For the second time in two weeks, authorities have announced an animal has escaped from a public zoo, this time from the Audubon Zoo in uptown New Orleans, forcing many local residents – including both Loyola and Tulane students – to evacuate their homes early Friday morning.
Audubon spokesperson April McEwin-Fulles is sounding the alarm, warning that the escaped animal – in this case a fully grown, female crawfish nicknamed “Mama Neville” – should be considered dangerous due to both her large size and mean temper.
“Mama Neville’s not your everyday crawfish - she’s the biggest crawfish we’ve ever found in Louisiana,” McEwin-Fulles told reporters outside City Hall Friday morning. “She pinched her way out of the zoo at 1:14AM Friday morning, seriously injuring two night guards in the process.”
But not all uptown residents are fleeing their homes. Loyola senior Hoyt Fuguelscack refuses to leave, stating he’d rather die than miss this chance of a lifetime. “Flee?! Are you kidding me? You can quote me on that.”
When asked what advice he would give to any person who comes into contact with Mama Neville, Fuguelscack wasted no time in his reply.
“Boil her. Then call your friends, cuz it’s crawfish season!”
